I have a friend who introduces his wife as 'my first wife'.

So did I - and he no longer does so as she truly was his first wife! (now on number 3, at which wedding his step-mother introduced me to likely number 4).

I've weighed in on the topic many times but I never tire of it, b/c I'm STILL trying to get my wife to embrace the Dead.

But it's still like a lot of you say. Her objections are basically:

1) How many versions of the same song can you possibly listen to? (A: as many as there are)

2) What's so great about the sound of 7 different guys playing 7 different songs all at the same time? (A: everything)

3) Why do you have to play them ALL the time? (A: why not?)

4) I DO like some of their songs...I just wish someone else would sing them. (A: what ever on earth for?)

5) How can you possibly defend Donna's singing? (A: I can't.)

Nevertheless, there have been some victories:

1) she flat-out admits to really liking "Ripple".
2) she knows more about a band she generally dislikes than most people know about bands they love b/c of all the exposure (i.e. I'll put her "name that tune" Dead skills up against even some seasoned Dead Heads.)
3) she thinks it's sweet that I think of her when I play 'They Love Each Other', and she admits it's a good song.
4) One time during a playing of "Ramble on Rose" from the 5/21/77 show she said "that was a good solo". I'll take it.
6) She teaches yoga and uses "Sage and Spirit" as one of the background songs for the class.
7) she digs the "Eyes of the World" from 3/29/90 with Branford.

Gotta take what you can get!
